Lane Press Installs Automated Production Workflow Tracking
WILMINGTON, MA, May 1, 2009 - Lane Press, South Burlington, Vermont, is installing an automated workflow tracking solution that will track material flow from roll receipt through delivery. This wireless tracking solution includes dead-on roll consumption and pallet production across all web presses using Prism’s QTMS iQ production management system. As a printer of short to medium run publications, material control is important not only to remain competitive, but to maintain a green footprint. In the shadow of Vermont’s Green Mountains, Lane Press has a history of minimizing its environmental footprint.
QTMS iQ will be integrated to Lane’s current business systems to automate the receipt of rolls through EDI, automate the delivery of job plans to press, and automate the consumption of rolls, press side, from inventory. More automation means less material handling, and less cost.
“Although the technology has changed since we first opened our doors in 1904, our commitment to continuous improvement has not,” said Philip Drumheller, President of Lane Press. “We see this project as a key aspect to the efficient use of our assets and the efficient use of our raw materials and work in progress. Our extensive research into solutions for automating our material workflow resulted in us choosing Prism and QTMS as the right solution for Lane Press.”
“QTMS iQ is the industry standard for production management worldwide,” says Filip Buyse, President and CEO of Prism. “More and more publication printers are using QTMS and I’m happy that a fine company like Lane Press has chosen Prism.”
QTMS iQ is the latest version in the 26 year history of QTMS products. iQ is a modular system with more intelligence and user friendly features including browser-based pallet-tracking and workflow management. The system provides an extraordinary level of highly accurate business management information and control to keep profitability and operational performance clearly in sight at every stage of production. QTMS iQ and all other Prism MIS solutions support the JDF specification.
